Well not really. I've been in Japan for almost two months now, and there've been lots of good points. But there are likewise many things that keep GETTING to me. Like not being able to function in certain aspects of daily life because of insufficient vocab on my part. How the only bread here is white and the slices are twice as thick. How the only cereal is corn flakes, often with sugar (not healthy!) I'll adapt over time...I AM still very new to all this.
I have a gaijin card, an inkan (personal stamp, acts like your signature), a bank account, and as of the 10th, my first paycheck. :F Although, the first two months of apartment rent were deducted from it, so I'm living slim until November 10th...
I'm teaching at 1 junior high, 3 elementary schools, 4 kindergartens, and one eikaiwa. Only the junior high is twice a week, and all but one of the kindergartens are only once a month (the other is twice), so I basically just go to a different school each day, and sometimes two. It's a bit tricky to juggle, but I'm a good multi-tasker and I think I'm getting the hang of it. I like all my schools except one elementary, which doesn't SUCK, it's just more a vague feeling that I'm an accessory there. Like, there's stuff on my desk when I get there and I have to move it, or today when my chair was pulled over to another desk...there's a small lack of consideration. Sure I'm only there once a week, but none of the other schools act like that. >.> Oh well. It's only one.
All of my schools are 20 minutes or less away from my apartment, which is lovely given that another position in this town has you driving an hour north two days a week...that poor guy...
All the other ALTs here are lovely people. There's four of us not including me all in this apartment, so we hang out every now and then, and swap ideas and stuff.
The kindergarteners can be kinda scary when they start climbing on you. Though the girls that run up and hug me and just stare up at me adorably from somewhere below my waist just kill me with cute. Haven't been kanchou-ed yet. They don't do it to women as much, I hear...
We got our new washing machine today. Yay! No more getting by on the good graces of the ALT who's been here since March and has been letting us use hers... >.> We can be totally independant!
We being me and Tecchan, since he came with me. He found a job, but it's an hour away by bus...however it's Fri-Sun so at least it's only 3 days a week.
So yes. In the land of white bread, I have no scanner, so any art I do I would have to take a pic of instead. Or I could post pics. Hmmm...
